Win streak broken as the Ice Jacks fall to Colorado State

The #5 NAU Ice Jacks fell to the #2 Colorado State (CSU) Rams 8-2 Thursday night to break their seven-game winning streak.

The story of the whole game was the fast play by CSU. The Ice Jacks were put through their paces all night as the Rams consistently beat NAU to the puck and raced to get on the attack. The Ice Jacks were only down 1-0 after a very disciplined first period where there was only one penalty.

In the second, however, the Ice Jacks fell apart as CSU scored four times in the second to make it 5-0 after two periods. One of those goals came on the powerplay and another was on the shorthand. NAU had several chances on their own powerplay however CSU kept NAU racing and the Ice Jacks were not able to cleanly set up their powerplay offense and gave up the puck multiple times.

The Ice Jacks got on the board in the third from a Ryan Greenspan goal that fired up the crowd and seemingly put the Ice Jacks back into the game. However, CSU did not let up and took the crowd out of it multiple times and ultimately skated away with an 8-2 victory. Zach Vachris scored the other goal for NAU.

The Ice Jacks return to the ice Saturday night, this time in Tempe, AZ at Oceanside Ice Arena as they face off with the #4 Colorado Buffaloes. Game time is at 7pm and all the action can be heard live on KJACK Radio.
