After the NFL lockout ended, fantasy sports did not hesitate in raving over sought after picks. Fantasy sports cover an array of sports including football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and even NASCAR. Are fantasy sports solely in it for the game or is there more to it? According to articlesbase.com, fantasy sports were created in 1997 and just recently sold for over $31 million dollars. Essentially, fantasy sports are big business. Fantasy sports give fans the chance to pick players that will hopefully win the game for them that week against their opponent. To be a part of fantasy sports, one is drafted into a league and goes through rounds drafting individual players. After drafting a “team” from an array of players, points are then accumulated based on their performance for that week. The best part about fantasy sports is that one does not even have to be “good” at it to win. Americans across the country drafted players from various teams including top picks Adrian Peterson, (Minnesota Vikings) and Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens). Millions of Americans are so consumed in their teams that some go to the extent of rooting against their favorite teams. However, as committed as fans may be, there are plenty of apps and sites that will update a person on their team’s points throughout the day. Whether you are a fantasy sports fan or just a die-hard fan, there is not doubt that fantasy sports have changed the industries everywhere. As for me, losing my fantasy game by less than 10 points really put a sting on my weekend.
