1978 – Bill Kenny of the legendary harmony group the Ink Spots dies.
1977 – No. 1 Chart Toppers hit: “Rich Girl,” Daryl Hall & John Oates. (really?)
1973 – Yoko Ono is granted permanent residency in the U.S.
1972 – Pink Floyd spend the first of eight days recording performances at Pompeii, Italy’s Roman amphitheater.
1970 – Although the Beatles had abandoned the tracks originally cut for Let It Be, their business manager, Allen Klein, invites Phil Spector to remix the recordings.
1969 – The Rally for Decency in Miami attracts 30,000 people, including Jackie Gleason and the Lettermen. The rally protests “longhairs and weird dressers” and later is commended by President Richard Nixon.(really?)
1964 – John Lennon’s book In His Own Write is published in Britain.
1963 – The Beach Boys release “Surfin’ USA.”
1963 – Doo-wop prince Dion marries his “Runaround Sue,” Sue Butterfield.
1961 -Elvis Presley records “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
1960 – Elvis Presley takes the train from Nashville to Miami to record a TV show with Frank Sinatra.(really?!)
